Before I start this article, I’d like to remind you of the fact that, this article is for the

Before I get too far into this article, I need to say this one really important thing: I’m writing this for the new, improved, modern-day sales teams and not for the old-school, smarmy types. However, if you’re an old-school/smarmy type and willing to change your ways, you’re welcome.

I’d like to tell the old-school/smarmy type that change your ways, please!

With that out of the way, let’s get down to business.

The ultimate aim of every sales team is to make sales. Isn’t it? Because it’s a well-known fact that making sales means makin’ it rain.

Sales = money = success = world domination.

Here I’ve outlined five habits that ‘ll help you make it rainy all year ‘round.

5 Best Practices for Inbound Sales Teams

1) Position yourself as a thought leader.

Just take a moment and consider yourself in the situation of taking an advice from a stranger. you won’t be buying anything from anyone you don’t trust, I suppose! Would you?

The buying process is a tangled web of trust, emotion, education, friendship ... the list goes on and on.

You can take care of several sales funnel land mines just by positioning yourself and your company as a thought leader. Future customers will be stopping and starts noticing you. Awareness: check. Your company will stay top-of-mind for your target market. Lead generation: check. People will trust you, become customers and fall in love with your brand. Brand advocates: check.

Being a thought leader within your industry is an important practice of an effective sales team. Here we are discussing a lot of tips, which undoubtedly will help you position yourself as a thought leader within your industry

2) Become the ultimate listening machine.

Just have a look at your Facebook news feed, you can find the “Me! Me! Me!” attitude. It’s just like everybody’s shouting about themselves. But the fact is that no one cares for what you ate for dinner.

You know what would make me care about you? If you cared about me.

If you want to be a successful and effective sales team, you have to care. You must not supposed to pretend like, you are caring – instead, you must really care.

How do you let your potential customers know how much you care? By listening to them.

You must be an ultimate listening machine. Instead of shouting about how great your product is, you must listen to what your customers need, what your customers like, and what’s causing your customers pain or trouble, and then solve their problems.

3) It's time to get mobilized.

Mobility stands for the mobile devices here. It stands for the availability of smartphones, Tablets, Laptops, etc. with your sales team. These devices are absolutely crucial for instant communication, yes, but also for conducting research while on the road.

All of your sales tools should be mobilized as well.

  • You must have a responsive website for your company.
  • Your websites are not supposed to look like total crap on an iPhone.
  • You must also be using landing pages, email campaigns, and downloadable offers

Think of it this way: You have to meet your customers where they are. And your customers are online. Guaranteed.

4) Blossom into a social butterfly.

It’s really great if your company performs well on the social media. This doesn’t mean that you don’t have to be there on the social medias. If you’re still not there on the social platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, Pinterest, or, heck, even Instagram or Vine etc. you must start one, at once!

It’s not necessary that you must start an account on all of the social networks listed above. But it’s necessary that you must pick at least 2-3 social platforms, which are used frequently by your potential customers.

For example; Pinterest might not be a bad idea, if you are working in sales at companies like Babies R Us.

You must upload a real picture of you as your profile picture and write an interesting bio. You must also take care to publish contents, which are really compelling and the conversations must be real.

On the contrary, you must not make faceless egg blob avatar as your profile picture, and spam thousands of people on the platform with messages like, “Hey! Buy my stuff!”

5) The dog did not eat your homework.

Since we’re all grown-ups, it is really hard for your manager, boss, coworkers, and, most importantly, customers to believe in the following excuses:

  • Fido ate your spreadsheet.
  • Your Wi-Fi router spontaneously combusted.
  • Your presentation got destroyed by the Loch Ness monster.

As a grown-up, we need to be prepared for everything, at this point in our career. This just mean that, you must conduct research, practice your speech, proofread your proposals, and study your competitors.

Being prepared is never an easy task.

You need to make preparation a priority! This is because, you take work as you need to be prepared and this’ll be beneficial for your company, as the company is relying on you.
